Phil Thompson: Gunners to lack ammunition against red-hot Devils on Sunday

Which Manchester United is going to turn up against Arsenal on Sunday?

Arsenal travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United in the latest renewal of one of the Premier League’s great rivalries on Sunday. Both sides might not be at the level of the glory days, but Paddy’s football ambassador Phil Thompson is looking forward to the 4.30pm kick off.

He’s been scouring the form lines of both sides to serve up his best bet of the game and Thommo’s hoping this Super Sunday lives up to its name.

Man Utd v Arsenal

We can cut out the Super because it was just Sunday last week. That was shocking, not just from Man United but Chelsea as well. We were all hoping for a little bit more but it’s what we said about the whole weekend last week, it was pretty poor.

But, wow! Midweek, Man United, how good were they? Was it good planning by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer leaving those players out and bringing on Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes? It could have all gone wrong but what a performance from them.

I think they’ll be buoyed by that performance because RB Leipzig are top of the German league and it was good opposition. Lo and behold, last week Arsenal were thinking they were getting back on it, we’re thinking a couple of weeks ago have they got a title chance? And what did they go and do? Got beat at home by Leicester.

THOMMO’S TIP: This, to me, is all pointing towards a comfortable Manchester United home victory with a clean sheet. Even David de Gea is starting to look the business again. I’m going for United to win this one 2-0.
