Football Tips: Phil Thompson’s 10/1 tempter for Tottenham v Brighton

Brighton are pleasing to watch, but Thommo think they’re lacking in cutting edge.

Jose Mourinho was fuming in the week as his Tottenham side succumbed to a meek 1-0 loss away at Royal Antwerp in the Europa League. It was a second-string side but Mourinho will be able to call on his big guns for Sunday evening’s visit of Brighton.

Paddy’s football ambassador Phil Thompson is expecting a backlash from Spurs against the pretty but harmless Brighton with Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min returning to the starting line up. Thommo’s expecting goals and has tipped up a big-price selection in this one.

Tottenham v Brighton

I think Tottenham are the banker of the day. We were talking before about how well Spurs are actually doing. Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min have been great. Just this season Son has scored seven goals, Kane has seven assists. It’s quite incredible.

Maybe because Kane doesn’t have that pace to burst in behind all the time Jose Mourinho has said come off, draw people away, and go into the No.10 role and then the two wider men make those movements from outside to inside. It seems to be working.

I don’t know why Jose told everybody the plan. Now they know your secret! Now everybody’s going to go, ‘wow, we’re going to have to watch that. Harry Kane goes in there, the centre midfield players can watch him and we’re watching for these two runners.’ Strange!

Brighton are sort of doing alright and they’re a nice team to watch. But, they’re always venerable and they never score enough goals. Against Manchester United, if you remember, they hit the woodwork about five times. I think that’s the way this one will pan out.

THOMMO’S TIP: I think Brighton will get one here though. As I said before they do create it’s just with Neal Maupay, Leandro Trossard, they just don’t have enough real quality to get over the line here. I’m looking at 3-1 to Spurs.
