The internationals are over and European football is back and boy, Saturday is full of some really mouth-watering fixtures. The standout looks to be the Milan derby in Serie A, while over in the Bundesliga we’ve got Monchengladbach taking on a Wolfsburg side who haven’t won a league match since June.
In France, Marseille can put an end to their run of draws at home to Bordeaux while in Spain Getafe entertain Barcelona who they’ve not beaten since 2011. And to finish things off, one of the biggest games in the Portuguese league where Sporting host Porto. It looks like it’s going to be a great day of European football, let’s have a look at where we’ve found some value…
5pm: Inter vs Milan – Both Teams to Score
Both Milan teams are coming into this, the 177th league meeting between the pair, in robust form. Inter are unbeaten in their last 11 Serie A matches while Milan have gone 15 league matches without a loss. Inter though hold the historical advantage here, they’ve beaten their bitter city rivals in four out of the last five meetings as the home side, with the other ending in a draw.
Both teams have started the new season in good goal-scoring form. Inter have scored 10 and conceded six over their three matches while Milan have scored seven and conceded none. Although Milan are yet to concede Inter will be good for one here so we’re backing Both Teams to Score.
7.30pm: Monchengladbach vs Wolfsburg – ‘Gladbach to Win & Over 2.5 Goals
Gladbach haven’t had the best of starts with one win, one loss and one draw but it’s better than Wolfsburg who have had three draws since the start of the season. Four out of the last four meetings between the pair at Borussia-Park have seen Over 2.5 goals landing.
Add to this the fact that in four out of the last five home league matches for Gladbach have seen Over 2.5 goals and three out of the last five away Wolfsburg league matches have also seen Overs landing and we have to go with goals here. The home side should come out on top as well – they’ve won three out of the last five meetings and Wolfsburg are still winless so far this season.
8pm: Marseille vs Bordeaux – Both Teams to Score
Marseille haven’t kicked on following that famous away win at PSG earlier in the season, they’ve had four matches since, drawing three and losing one. Bordeaux aren’t exactly in great form either, they’ve won two, drawn two and lost one over their last five.
Bordeaux haven’t won at the Stade Velodrome since 2008 and that’s unlikely to change, however, they’ve scored six since the season started, while Marseille have seven. We think both should score here. BTTS has landed in four out of the last five home league matches for Marseille and also in four out of five away for Bordeaux. We’re going with that trend to continue here.
8pm: Getafe vs Barcelona – Barcelona to Win
There’s quite decent odds on Barcelona to win here but it’s a sign of the times that their odds are so high as we all know all is not good behind the scenes at the Nou Camp.
Saying all that, Barca have lost just once at Getafe over their last 12 visits, they’re also unbeaten in their seven most recent away league matches, while Getafe have lost two out of their last three at home in the league. We have to go with the away side here.
8.30pm: Sporting Lisbon vs Porto – Both Teams to Score
The last five league meetings between the sides have been fairly even, Sporting have won two, Porto have won one and two have ended in a draw. Saturday’s hosts have started their season with two wins while the away side have won two and lost one.
Sporting have scored four and are yet to concede, while Porto have scored 10 and conceded four. While Sporting don’t concede many we cannot ignore the fact that Porto have started the season by scoring at will, and both should be good for at least a goal each here.
