The Nations League gets back underway on Saturday night. We’re taking a look at some European football royalty in Group A where Spain take on Switzerland and Ukraine host Germany. The Spanish and the Germans have now gone 14 and eight matches respectively without defeat, will they both be adding to their good records here or will we see an upset?
More importantly, can we find any value in the markets when both of these teams are such hot favourites? Read on to find out.
19:45 Spain vs Switzerland: Spain to Win & BTTS
As said above, Spain have now gone 14 matches unbeaten. Just looking at their home form, they’ve gone seven matches without defeat, the last of which was against Gareth Southgate’s England two years ago. Obviously the Spaniards are a fantastic side but manager Luis Enrique just cannot help himself and insists on never playing the same lineup twice in a row.
Over their five most recent matches, three wins and two draws, scoring 17 goals and conceding just one, he hasn’t played the same front three or back five (including goalkeeper) two matches in a row. In October 2018 they lost to England and lost again away to Croatia a month later going on to either win or draw every match since.
However, they’ve not played anyone of the calibre of an England or Croatia since then and when they did come up against mid-tier European teams like Norway and Sweden away from home they could only draw on both occasions. Switzerland can get at the Spanish and their away record has seen them scoring in seven out of nine away matches since the last World Cup.
They won’t win and Spain can really turn on the heat at home, they’ve scored an incredible 23 goals over their five most recent on Spanish soil, but Switzerland can get at least one here so we’re backing Spain to Win and BTTS.
19:45 Ukraine vs Germany: Both Teams to Score
Ukraine have been in some uncharacteristically terrible form over their last two matches, losing 4-0 away to Spain last month and then losing 7-1 to France in a friendly on Wednesday night. Both of those matches were on the road though and at home they’ve only lost two of their last 13 matches on Ukrainian soil.
Germany have now gone eight matches without defeat but their three most recent matches have all been draws, a 1-1 with Spain, 1-1 with Switzerland, both on the road, and a 3-3 at home with Turkey. Ukraine have a couple of injuries and are even missing a few players who have contracted coronavirus and will surely be crestfallen following both of those recent humbling defeats on the road.
However, Germany’s defensive problems are there for all to see, they’ve failed to keep a Clean Sheet in any of their four most recent matches and Ukraine have scored at least one in ten out of 10 recent matches on home soil. We’re going with Both Teams to Score here which is above Evens and a great price considering Ukraine’s home scoring record and Germany’s far from perfect defence.
