Football tips: Our 6/1 tasty treble for Saturday’s Scottish footy action

Don't expect the unexpected in the latest round of matches in the SPFL.

Celtic vs Livingston – Celtic (-2)

Celtic appear to have recovered well from their ignominious Champions League exit at the hands of Ferencvaros and now have an excellent chance to put real pressure on Rangers ahead of their tricky trip to Hibs on Sunday.

There is no such thing as formalities in football, but Celtic playing at home to one of the worst teams in the Scottish Premiership is about as close as you will get to one.

Celtic have won their last four league games, scoring 11 and conceding one, while Livingston have recorded just one win all season and find themselves perilously close to the bottom of the table.

They appear set for a relegation dogfight this season and their chances of coming away from Celtic Park with anything other than a heavy defeat are slim.

The additions of forward Albian Ajeti and, ironically, defender Shane Duffy have made Celtic even more formidable going forward this season and they should run up a big score on Saturday afternoon.

Dundee United vs St. Mirren – Under 2.5 goals

These sides have almost mirrored each other perfectly over the opening seven games of the Scottish season.

Both sides have won two, drawn one, and lost four and both have managed to score just four goals so far this season.

The only area where there is a slight difference between them is in their defensive stats; St. Mirren have conceded ten in the league while Dundee have shipped 12 goals.

Both clubs will almost certainly find themselves closer to the foot of the table than the top-six come the season’s end and both sides have proved quite incapable of scoring goals recently.

Dundee have failed to score in each of their last three league games, while St. Mirren have managed to find the back of the net on just two occasions in their last four games.

This is not a game for the neutral to salivate over and there is little hope of a goalfest on Saturday.

They should cancel each other out.

Dundee United

St. Johnstone vs Ross County – St. Johnstone to win

Neither side heads into this one in particularly good form, but St. Johnstone’s run is not quite as bad as Ross County’s.

County defied expectations at the start of the season, picking up seven points from their opening three games, but they have tailed away badly since.

Stuart Kettlewell’s side have picked up just one point from their last 12 and come into this game off the back of a 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Celtic.

St. Johnstone, on the other hand, have lost three of their last four games, but each of their defeats has been a 1-0 loss.

This is an excellent chance for Kilmarnock to leapfrog Ross County into fifth place and they should seize the opportunity with both hands.
