David Moyes might finally be about to get his hands on a title, though the winner of the Premier League Sack Race 2020/21 is probably not one he actually wants.
Paddy Power cut his odds of being the next Premier League manager to leave his post today following a run of bets on Tuesday morning.
This comes as Moyes faces pressure after he was overruled by West Ham’s board in the sale of Grady Diangana – leading to public outcries from players including captain Mark Noble.
That places him ahead of the previous favourite, Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson, as well as the perennially-beleaguered Steve Bruce at Newcastle.
Sean Dyche looked like he was on the way out of Burnley after falling out with the board at the end of last season while Villa manager Dean Smith is next in the betting.
Newly-promoted Fulham gaffer Scott Parker is next despite recently signing a new three-year contract and Brighton boss Graham Potter follows him with the Premier League set to kick-off this weekend.
Spokesman Paddy Power said: “We’ve not even started the new season yet, and already the odds on David Moyes leaving his role as West Ham’s manager have dropped.
“This comes after a run of bets following the sale of Grady Diangana – as plenty of bettors seem to think he’s poised and ready to resign or leave.”
Leeds’s madcap gaffer Marco Bielsa has a history of walking out of jobs and Pep Guardiola is a longer shot, but maybe the disappointment of missing out on signing Lionel Messi might force him into another sabbatical.
