Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez is chomping at the bit to seal a dream move to Italian champions Juventus. Suarez will turn 34 this season and is a little too long in the tooth for new Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman’s liking.
And the former Ajax and Liverpool striker has reportedly told Juve boss Andrea Pirlo he would ‘bite his hand off’ for a chance to line up alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.
“Luis has many offers,” revealed Suarez’s agent. “Juventus? We’ll see. Luis hasn’t played in Italy before and would like to cut his teeth at that level before he retires.”
It’s understood Pirlo personally contacted Suarez to discuss a potential move to the Turin side. “Yes it’s true, Luis and I chewed the fat,” confessed the former midfielder. “It’s a new challenge and something Luis can really sink his teeth into.”
The 41-year-old admits a front-three consisting of Suarez, Dybala and Ronaldo is a mouth-watering prospect.
Juventus fell at the Champions League semi-final stage last season after missing a string of chances against Lyon and Pirlo believes Suarez will add some much-needed bite in attack.
“He’s in the latter stages of his career but Luis’ appetite for the game hasn’t diminished. We’ve got players throughout the team who can put it on a plate for Luis and he’ll gobble up those type of chances.”
However, should Suarez complete the switch to the Allianz Stadium he’ll be required to wear a muzzle under Italian law.
Under the Dangerous Animal Act, Suarez will be ordered to wear a muzzle during games for the protection of his opponents.
The Italian football federation (FIGC) said on Monday he hoped that Juventus would be responsible owners if they sign Suarez.
“By following the government guidelines, we hope Juventus can prevent a Suarez attack from occurring,” they barked in a statement.
“Luis should be muzzled when in a public place, held on a lead by someone strong like Igor Tudor and neutered within 30 days of arriving in Italy.”
