Especially if you’re a Liverpool fan who’s expecting that one of the Kop’s stars will be crowned as the PFA Player Of The Year for 2019/20.
Despite their first title in 30 years and an utterly dominant display from a team in perfect harmony, it’s the Manchester City man who is the clear favourite to take the gong which is voted for by fellow professionals.
It looks as though the element working against a Kop crowning here is that their success has been built off such a strong all-round team showing. It seems they may have split the vote among their fellow footballers.
Despite a strong start for Raheem Sterling this term, he’s been completely overshadowed by De Bruyne as City’s best player with the Belgian notching up 13 goals and 21 assists in all competitions so far this year.
So, De Bruyne heads the market ahead of Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson. The former Sunderland man will finally get his hands on the Premier League trophy on Wednesday but he could miss out on the PFA Player of the Year award.
Sadio Mane is perhaps the surprise third favourite ahead of the imperious Virgil van Dijk in fourth but the forward’s haul of 17 goals and nine assists gives him the edge over defensive solidarity.
Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mo Salah come next while Leicester hitman Jamie Vardy is 7th favourite with Leicester’s wobbly form since the restart might have hampered his chances.
Roberto Firmino rounds off the list of players we think have a hope but he’s a long price and a lack of goals has probably done for him this year. While the Liverpool players mentioned would love to pick up the 2019/20 Player Of The Year award, their Premier League crown will undoubtedly be reward enough for an incredible season.
