Leeds United supporters’ groups are urging the EFL to spare them the heartache of yet another promotion failure by ending the season on its current standings.
Fans of the Yorkshire outfit approached the Football League after watching last weekend’s 2-0 defeat at the hands of fellow promotion hopefuls Cardiff City. Leeds United’s end of season capitulation has become a highly anticipated feature of the sporting calendar in recent years.
In what has become known as ‘doing a Leeds’, the Elland Road outfit would storm to an early lead at the top of the table, only to fall apart around March. However, supporters of the club were hopeful their wait for a Premier League return was finally over with The Whites topping the Championship.
But, following that defeat at Cardiff and with 3rd placed Fulham up next for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, Leeds fans want the season ended immediately.
“Get bastid season ended now,” demanded lifelong Leeds United fan Kes Moyles, who’s spearheading the campaign. “If it’s good enough for SPL, Ligue 1 and Eredivisie, then it’s good enough for t’Championship, lad.”
But despite the pleas of Leeds fans up and down the country, the 57-year-old remains sceptical the EFL will do them any favours. “It’s all part of a complicit pact between the football league and Sky TV to keep the mighty Leeds out of the Premier League,” he claimed, while adjusting his tinfoil hat.
Meanwhile, Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has assured supporters’ groups he’s doing everything within his power to ensure the club proceed with their annual implosion as scheduled.
We caught up with Bielsa this afternoon who was spying on a Fulham training session whilst disguised as The Cottagers’ beloved mascot, Billy the Badger.
“We’re all out of kilter with the lockdown, so I’ve instructed my coaches to knacker the players a little later than scheduled this season. A few laps round the Pennines should exhaust the boys sufficiently,” he beamed.
