Marcus Rashford been putting his spare time to good use after the Premier League season was curtailed by the Coronavirus pandemic. While some pros were making videos of themselves doing keepie-uppies with toilet rolls or practising their golf swing in sprawling back gardens, the Manchester United star has been hard at it helping to raise a fortune – and taking on Boris Johnson while he’s at it.
And because of his incredible charitable efforts, we’ve slashed the odds of him claiming the Sports Personality of the Year 2020 from a pre-lockdown price of 150/1, down to 80/1, through 50/1 and 20/1 with him now being the 6/4 joint favourite with Tyson Fury.
The flurry of bets on Rashford to win the prize came after he announced that he had raised millions of pounds to help deliver 3,000,000 meals to disadvantaged kids. Even more flutters flooded in as Rashford upped the pressure on the UK Government to deliver free schoolmeals to kids during holidays before they eventually cracked.
Guys, I have AMAZING news!! 😬😬😬 We had a goal that by end of June @fareshareuk would be able to supply 3million meals to vulnerable people across the UK. TODAY we have met the financial goal to provide these meals. Thank you all SO much for the support (1)

Last week he tweeted: “Guys, I have AMAZING news!! We had a goal that by end of June @fareshareuk would be able to supply 3million meals to vulnerable people across the UK. TODAY we have met the financial goal to provide these meals. Thank you all SO much for the support.
“And whilst I’m celebrating this, there is SO much more to do. Trust me when I say, I will keep fighting until no child in the UK has to worry about where their next meal is coming from. This is England in 2020 and families need help.”
Incredible work, indeed. The 22-year-old is showing amazing maturity and leadership skills that we think could see him start to move into senior roles for club and country as well.
The England forward is evens to be the Red Devils captain in the next five years and 5/1 to lead the Three Lions in the same time frame. Even bigger gongs could be coming the Manchester lad’s way and he’s just 6/4 to be knighted by 2022 and 16/1 to get the freedom of his hometown.
Rashford and Fury currently lead the SPOTY 2020 running at 6/4 with Lewis Hamilton, Jordan Henderson and Judd Trump making up the top five.
Paddy said: “Marcus Rashford’s successful campaigning has not only successfully forced a change of mind of the government, but also left lots of football fans – even rival ones – raring to cheer him on.
“I think even Spurs fans will be jumping off their socially-distanced sofas if he scores against them on Friday.”
