What Odds Paddy?!? Belting Bundesliga bet lands at 500/1

Senasational punting, just sensational

Hurray for the Bundesliga – it’s great having some top football back.

Honestly, the Germans could send a turkey in a shopping trolley to the Eurovision in 2021 and they’re still guaranteed my douze points just for giving us something to pass a Saturday afternoon – and a midweek Wednesday night – watching with their behind-closed-doors top-flight resumption.

It also means I can stop watching table tennis livestreams for the foreseeable. Phew.

Now, we may not all know our schnitzel from our vorsprung durch technik, but a decent punt is the same in any language and whatever the competition.

And some of you found a blinding bet in the midweek German football fixtures this week.

While the traders have been brushing up on their Deutschland knowledge – that’s eating lots of bratwurst from Lidl and trying on some lederhosen fancy dress costumes – they took their eye off the fussball for RB Leipzig versus Hertha Berlin on Wednesday, because quite a few of you spotted a belting offer among our featured #WhatOddsPaddy punts for this game.

LEIPZIG, GERMANY – MAY 27: Players observe a minute of silence to commemorate the victims of the coronavirus pandemic prior to the Bundesliga match between RB Leipzig and Hertha BSC at Red Bull Arena on May 27, 2020 in Leipzig, Germany. The Bundesliga and Second Bundesliga is the first professional league to resume the season after the nationwide lockdown due to the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. 64 shrewdies snapped up the 500/1 odds on Hertha Berlin 1+ Goals in Each Half; Hertha Berlin 3+ Corners in Each Half & RB Leipzig 1+ Cards in Each Half bet and took Paddy to the tune of over £56,000 on just this one market alone.

Anyone got Angela Merkel’s number? We might need a bit of a bailout again lads…

You might’ve thought this bet hadn’t a hope – we certainly did – especially as Leipzig had kept seven cleansheets in their last nine games, including a creditable 0-0 draw against Bayern Munich’s title-chasing juggernaut, so Berlin’s hopes of scoring in both halve looked slim, but goals from Marko Grujic and Krzysztof Piatek saw them nab a 2-2 draw as they collected seven total corners, while Leipzig leftback Marcel Halstenberg’s two yellow cards – one in the fourth minute of injury time in the first half – brought in the final leg of this winning punt.

It means that every lucky so-and-so who took up this bet won, on average, over £850 from an average stake of a little under £2!

What odds Paddy, indeed.
