Everyone’s new favourite football league came up tops last weekend with a sensational 500/1 #WhatOddsPaddy winner.
Thanks to the Belarusian Premier League’s titanic tussle of Slavia Mozyr versus BATE Borisov, one lucky sod turned £5 into £2,500 with as smart a bet as your ever likely to see.
I reckon this lad must be watching the league every week.
Our traders are used to offering huge-priced #WhatOddPaddy punts dreamt up by our customers on the biggest leagues from around the world, but with every competition in Europe shut down for the foreseeable future, they were tasked with doing the trick on one of the more obscure leagues from Paddy Power’s range of football league
And, well, let’s just say it did not go to plan.
You’d think they’d have known a bit about BATE anyway – we’ve all seen plenty of ninety-second highlight packages on Champions League nights where they’re getting drummed by Europe’s giants, but those snippets of info didn’t do us much good on Saturday as they were turned over by Slavia Mozyr, about whom we know even less.
But one punter certainly did know their stuff as they picked this unheralded side to score in both halves against BATE and to have four corners or more either side of half-time too.
Quite specific that, and at 500/1, clearly never going to happen.
Only it did, as Nikita Melnikov rattled a pair of goals home either side of the break to lift Mozyr to a 2-1 victory having fallen behind in the tenth minute.
That turned the £5 stakes into £2,500. Fair play to anyone who could find that kind of winning bet when almost every league in Europe is postponed.
This Belarusian football might not be so bad after all.
Unless you’re Paddy.
