The prodigal son returns to the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night when Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal take on Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. Both teams have won four of their last five fixtures of late.
Could the former student get one over his old master, or are we slightly demented for even thinking Arsenal could get something here? Let’s have a look for a Same Game Multi for Wednesday night.
Arsenal aren’t going to win here, so we were definitely being demented there. Sorry. Well, they could win, it is football after all, but it’s incredibly unlikely. Over the 10 most recent league matches between the sides at the Etihad, Arsenal have won two, a 0-2 win in 2015 and a 0-3 win 2010.
Looking at City’s home matches, they’ve scored a whopping 2.54 goals per game and conceded 0.92 per matches and of their five most recent home matches, Both Teams to Score has landed in three of five. For Arsenal’s away matches, they’ve been scoring 1.08 per match on their travels and conceding 1.23 and BTTS has occurred in three of their five previous away matches as well. It has landed in four of five previous meetings between the pair at the Etihad, so we’re backing it here again at 8/13.
Man City and Arsenal are both in the top five for corner stats in the Premier League this season, with 232 and 175 respectively. Looking at just home and away records, City have had 126 corners at home so far this season, that’s an average of 9.69 and have conceded just 2.69 per match. Arsenal on their travels have averaged 5.31 corners per match and conceded 6.54.
Over 11.5 is quite a high number but in three of City’s last five league games at home this bet would have won. It also would have landed in both of Arsenal’s last two away Premier League games. And with both teams enjoying high averages of corners we like the look of Over 11.5 Corners landing here at 10/11.
If you’re not familiar with booking points they work like this; 10 points for a yellow card and 25 for a red card. When it comes to picking up bookings, Manchester City are ranked around midtable. Arsenal, however, have picked up the most yellow and red cards this season; 63 and three. City have picked up 51 and three.
City’s home matches don’t tend to have loads of cards, over their five most recent home PL matches, the average booking points have amounted to 28. For Arsenal though, they seem to lose the run of themselves on the road. Their matches have averaged 60 booking points per game over their five most recent away PL matches.
With a midfield and final third overrun by attacking Man City players we can see Arsenal picking up a good few bookings here. Jonathan Moss will be the man in black here, he’s averaging 3.40 yellow cards per game this season, which is close to our target here. In the last match he had with Arsenal he awarded a whopping seven yellow cards and one red, a bookings total of 95 points so we’re confident of him getting his pencil out a few times here to caution some of Arteta’s players on Wednesday night.
