Steven Gerrard to Liverpool: Odds slashed on Stevie G taking U23 role

From 100/1 to 5/1.

The chances of Steven Gerrard returning to Liverpool to manage the under 23s has fallen this morning. Our traders saw the odds shorten from 100/1 to 5/1 in the last couple of hours, following a period of sustained betting.

This comes as former manager Neil Critchley left to the role to join Blackpool earlier this week.

The current favourite for the role is Barry Lewtas at evens, followed by Tim Jenkins at 6/4 – though no other selection’s odds have fallen as much as Stevie G’s, who is third in the market.

Also in the running is Xabi Alonso (20/1), Jonathon Robinson (20/1) and Anthony Ryan (50/1).

Our very own Paddy Power said: “Could Steven Gerrard be set to leave Rangers – who are now 13 points behind Celtic – for the vacant Liverpool U23 role?

“We’ve seen a huge increase in betting on exactly that this morning, as he moves into third favourite in the market. It could be a move which satisfies both sets of fans as the Scottish side slip further into a rut.”
