Football betting tips: A smart 11/1 treble on Tuesday’s Championship action

More heartbreak for Leeds, this time at the hands of Brentford?

Brentford vs Leeds

Tuesday 19:45

Leeds have managed to outdo themselves this season. At the turn of the year, it seemed impossible that they would miss out on automatic promotion as they enjoyed an 11-point buffer over third place. Six short weeks later, however, and that gap has been reduced to goal difference. Their situation became more perilous following the comprehensive defeat to Nottingham Forest at the weekend and another defeat on Tuesday could see them slip as low as fifth.

Brentford, for their part, responded well to a home defeat to Nottingham Forest at the end of January with two wins and they look well on track to make the playoffs at the very least. Ollie Watkins bagged his 20th league goal of the season in Saturday’s win over Middlesbrough and they look far more confident than their Yorkshire rivals.

Leeds won the reverse fixture in a tight game thanks to a late winner and it could be similarly tight on Tuesday in what will surely be a tense occasion for both sets of players and fans. Brentford might be on the right side of a tight game this time, though.

Pick: Brentford to win @ 7/5

Swansea vs QPR

Tuesday 19:45

Both clubs come into this one on the back of poor defeats at the weekend and both will be looking for a pick-me-up ahead of the Championship run-in.

Swansea’s defeat at home to Derby will hurt more. They had battled from a goal down to take a 2-1 lead, only to gift Derby two soft goals from a defensive point of view. Had they managed to hang on, they’d find themselves just a point off the playoffs. As it stands, they are four points away from the top six and simply must beat QPR on Tuesday if they harbour any serious ambitions of making a playoff push in the spring.

QPR are one of the most inconsistent teams in the league and their league standing is reflective of that. They have lost three games in succession after beating promotion chasing Leeds, while their only other league win in their last 10 outings was a 6-1 mauling of Cardiff. They have just failed to hit top gear on a consistent basis and it has left them in limbo for the Championship run-in – probably not going to go down and certainly not going to go up.

It should work in Swansea’s favour on Tuesday and they should keep their top six hopes alive.

Pick: Swansea to win @ 10/11

Nottingham Forest vs Charlton

Tuesday 19:45

Two clubs on very different trajectories come into contact on Tuesday night.

Nottingham Forest appear set to mount a serious promotion charge for the first time in almost a decade after a commanding win against Leeds on Saturday night, while Charlton continue their worrying slide down the Championship table and find themselves just one place outside the bottom three.

Forest could be a lot higher in the table, but the concession of costly late goals – namely twice against Reading in January – has cost them. There was no hint of that on Saturday though and they will look to follow up that huge win with a more expected victory on Tuesday.

Charlton have not won on the road since August and they have collected just one point from their last eight games away from the Valley.

Forest, meanwhile, have 13 points from their last 15 at the City Ground and are beginning to make the old ground a fortress again after a chastening 4-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday before Christmas.

All of the momentum is with Forest, who could find themselves in the top two at the end of the night if results go their way, and they should be right at it.

Pick: Nottingham Forest (-1) @ 13/8
