Watford v Southampton Trader Tips: Deeney’s return should sting Saints

The big man is back for Watford and that should mean goals on Saturday

An uninspiring bottom of the table clash to look forward to on Saturday evening. Last season’s head to head produced two 1-1 draws and so – no surprises – it’s expected to be a low scoring tight affair again with under 2.5 goals odds on at 17/20.

Southampton are favs at 11/10 and with no win in nine league matches we are happy to take them on.

Southampton’s draw last week against a very poor Arsenal performance was just papering over the cracks – look at the state Arsenal are in at the moment.

The Saints have the leakiest defence in the league conceding nine in their last four matches and the game before that was the famous 9-0 defeat against Leicester.

Troy Deeney is set to return for Watford and is in line for his first start since August. The talismanic leader along with Gerard Deulofeu will cause Southampton’s defence problems with their classic big man little man partnership – they’re a bit of a throwback to the glory days of Niall Quinn and Kevin Phillips at Sunderland.

Looking for a bit of value and to take on Southampton I’ll go with Watford to win 2-0 or 3-0

Watford to win 2-0 or 3-0 @ 14/1 (Power Price boosted from 11/1)

Watford are eighth in the table for shots taken with 166 so far scoring a meagre eight goals in 13 matches, the fewest in the league.

They’ll have no problem creating the chances and with Deeney back though and they can up their conversion rate significantly.

Deeney’s presence will also free up Watford’s tiny dancer Deulofeu. I am tipping the Spaniard to get plenty of space and chances against the worst defence in the league.

Gerard Deulofeu 2 or more shots on target @ 6/4

With this expected to be a tense close match we can expect a few yellow cards, Watford are joint second for most yellows this season on 28 their Greek full-back Jose Holebas is favourite in this market at 6/4.

With five yellows in his 10 appearances this season you can understand the short price.

Looking for a big price winner to get the funds for big Saturday night out we will need to combine this with a couple other selections and I am liking this #WhatoddsPaddy selection at a nice price.

Troy Deeney to score; Watford to score in both halves & Jose Holebas to be carded @ 22/1
