You beauty! Liverpool punter rakes in £16,000 on £10 correct score treble

Paddy was left red-faced after a Scouse punter in a Merseyside shop backed the Reds to win 3-1.

What a weekend it was for the Red half of Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp’s high-flying side putting title-rivals Man City to the sword at Anfield. And it got even better for one astute Merseyside punter, who struck metaphorical gold with a £10 quid correct score treble that required the Reds to win 3-1 (17/1) and took home a cool £16,000 on Sunday evening.

The bettor placed his money in a city centre Paddy Power retail shop and would have been one of the few (non-Evertonian) Liverpudlians urging City to bag a goal after Liverpool went 3-0 up in the late kickoff. Bernardo Silva’s 78th-minute goal – and VAR’s determination not to give City a second – brought home the bacon, though it would have been a nervous final 15 minutes for our winner, whose two other legs had already hit.

Those two picks in question were Man Utd to beat Brighton 3-1 (11/1) and Wolves to beat Aston Villa 2-1 (13/2). You might think it was brave to back Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side to do anything other than, well, be totally abject, but the Red Devils pulled through for our punter, winning comfortably in the end thanks to Marcus Rashford’s 66th-minute effort.

Things were rather more nail-biting over at Molineux, where Wolves led 2-0 going into the 92nd-minute. For our intrepid punter, it looked like the gig was up. That was until Villa’s Egyptian winger Trezeguet battered the ball not so much into Wolves’ net as a matter of inches over Rui Patricio’s goalline.

Thanks to the buzzing of Anthony Taylor’s watch, the goal was awarded in dramatic circumstances and Wolves held on for the win, keeping the bet alive going into the big one at 4.30pm. Glorious stuff!

Winning Bet Summary

  • Man Utd to beat Brighton 3-1 (11/1)
  • Wolves to beat Aston Villa 2-1 (13/2)
  • Liverpool to beat Man City 3-1 (17/1)
