Exclusive: Lukaku narrowly misses training by 444 miles

So close!

Belgian international Romelu Lukaku tried to attend a Manchester United training session yesterday but missed, according to reports.

In what’s being described as the striker’s worst to date, the 26-year-old missed the Aon Training Complex at Carrington by a whopping 444 miles and ended up in Brussels.

A confused Lukaku spent the morning trotting around Anderlecht’s training pitch before realising his mistake.

‘F**king sat nav’s on the fritz again’, moaned Lukaku.

‘I’ll have to send it back to the manufacturer to get repaired. I’m lucky I didn’t end up in Italy or something’, he added.

The hulking forward caused a further stir when he allegedly strayed into an onside position during a practice match involving Anderlecht’s U18 players.

The session was subsequently abandoned while several young players and first-team coach Vincent Kompany were treated for shock by the club’s medical staff.

Sources claim the former Everton hitman was stood as much as half a yard onside when a youngster slipped a ball into his path.

‘I’d never witnessed a miracle before’, recalls Anderlecht boss Kompany.

‘When the ball was played to Rom, I automatically expected to hear a whistle or see him jogging dejectedly back towards the centre circle’.

‘I was so overcome with disbelief I fainted’, confessed the former City skipper.

Kompany was tended to by Anderlecht’s physio, Dr Steph O’Scope, who ordered Lukaku to fetch a cold flannel.

‘Romelu was boasting about being the fastest player at United’, she recalled.

‘So I told him to go quick and get a cloth to cover Vincent’s head’.

He returned a few minutes later with a table cloth.

‘I asked him to place it gently across Vinny’s forehead to constrict the blood vessels’.

‘He missed’, she sighed.

It’s the latest in a long line of misses during his two-year stint at Old Trafford and it would appear Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has finally run out of patience with the £75m star.

The 46-year-old Norwegian has asked the club’s hierarchy to seek out potential replacements for the forward.

However, it looks unlikely that United will sign anyone before Thursday’s deadline after it emerged Ed Woodward has spent the past few days licking the transfer window.
