AFCON 2019: Algeria to do the business as part of this 10/1 double

Can Mahrez & co. do it against Zaha's Ivory Coast?

Ivory Coast v Algeria: Algeria to win and under 2.5 goals – 13/5

Thursday, 18:00

We often make a big deal of AFCON matches generally being low-scoring affairs – but that’s because, most of the time, they are.

Algeria have yet to concede a goal in this tournament but have been – relatively speaking – prolific at the other end, winning two games 3-0, one 2-0 and one 1-0. By the standards of this competition, that is quite abundant levels of goalscoring.

Ivory Coast beat Namibia 4-1, but each of their other three matches finished 1-0, one of which was a loss to Algeria’s neighbours, Morocco.

All things considered, we very much fancy there being a “nil” somewhere in the scoreline at full time and given the Desert Foxes’ performances so far, we think it’s likely the Algerians will triumph here at a final score of 1-0 or 2-0.

They look a better team than Ivory Coast, who are fairly parsimonious in defence, so there’s plenty of justification for taking Algeria to win and under 2.5 total match goals. Especially at what appears to be a very generous price.

Pick: Algeria to win and under 2.5 goals – 13/5

Madagascar v Tunisia: Draw – 11/5

Thursday, 20:00

Madagascar have been something of a revelation in this tournament so far, enjoying a surprise victory over Nigeria before edging out DR Congo on penalties in the first knockout round.

Looking at their results more clinically, they drew with a pretty mediocre Guinea side, beat a poor Burundi team, shocked Nigeria with a superb display before creeping past a misfiring, disjointed DRC.

Madagascar have played brilliantly, but it’s probably not unfair to suggest they’re about to reach their limit in the shape of a stubborn, thoroughly unspectacular Tunisia outfit.

We’re looking particularly closely at Madagascar’s two draws, because the Tunisians – who only ever play one way: defensively – have drawn every single one of their games at AFCON 2019.

So that’s six draw in eight matches between these two teams. What does that make you think is the most likely 90 minute result here?

Pick: Match Odds – Draw – 11/5
