Chris Hughton’s dismissal from Brighton this morning has raised the interest of Paddy Power punters, who have immediately started backing him to take over at Celtic.
The weight of betting has been so heavy that the former Ireland star has been backed in from 33/1 to 5/1 to be installed as permanent manager at Celtic Park.
That puts him at third favourite in the market. Current incumbent Neil Lennon leads the betting (6/4) but is drifting after an unconvincing end to the season.
David Moyes (9/4) is second favourite, and has slipped out of contention for the Scotland job, which seems set to go to Steve Clarke.
Spokesman Paddy Power said: “Chris Hughton, again, gets rough justice after doing a decent job. He deserves some support, and he’d get plenty of that at Celtic.
“One place he hasn’t lacked support, though, has been in our betting. The backing he’s received there has been extraordinary, and could point to a quick return to management.”
