We’ve launched a charity campaign – for success-deprived Liverpool fans!

This is for those forgotten men and women who have lived a lifetime of Liverpool misery

Today we launched an online charity campaign as Liverpool’s season stands on the brink of collapsing.

Following the club’s Champions League hammering at the hands of Barcelona, and with Man City looking unbeatable in the title race, Liverpool’s trophy-less run looks set to continue – extending their long Premier League hoodoo.

In the film created for the campaign, a spoof charity appeal, a 28-year-old Liverpool fan – born just after the club last won the league – calls on former manager Rafa Benitez, now at Newcastle, to encourage his side to roll over in tomorrow night’s clash between the two teams.

Gary Travers, from Merseyside said: “I’m begging Rafa to end our misery. I’ve heard the stories of past glory and seen us be the nearly men too many times.

“Now is the time for me and the 230 million Liverpool fans born since 1990 to see the reds grab the trophy which keeps eluding us. Rafa, we brought you Ol’ Big Ears – the least you can do is gift us the title.”

Spokesman Paddy Power said: “29 years ago the footballing Gods placed a curse on Anfield, and even now when they’ve smashed every record imaginable and amassed a points tally many managers can only dream about – the title still isn’t theirs.

“So, we’re launching a campaign for those forgotten men and women, who have lived a lifetime of Liverpool misery. Rafa – it’s time to make this year ‘their year’ – and Brendan Rodgers could play his part in delivering that long-promised trophy to Anfield, too.”
