Usually Leeds United fans would stick by somebody seen as ‘one of their own’ through thick and thin. Shaun Harvey doesn’t fall into that category though and his time at the head of the English Football League has certainly seen to that.
The sometimes-controversial football administrator landed the role of CEO at Elland Road in 2004 and became synonymous with the recent bad times at Leeds United, They included an utter financial implosion (even though that had begun before he joined), relegation to League One and the ill-fated Ken Bates ownership of the club.
It’s fair to say that Leeds United supporters weren’t in the mood to send the former Bradford City Managing Director farewell cards when he departed the club to take over the Chief Executive post at the Football League in July 2013.

Since then the animosity towards Harvey has only grown amongst the Yorkshire club’s faithful. The League’s running battles with former owner Massimo Cellino were added to by threats from Leeds to ban Sky from their games in a row over TV revenue, thanks to the deal Harvey had negotiated with the broadcaster.
The current ludicrous overrun on the ‘Spygate’ issue hasn’t helped matters either, so as you can imagine the announcement today of Harvey’s departure from his post at the end of the season has been met with glee by Leeds fans.
