If there’s one thing that gets us up off our seats in Power Tower, it’s seeing a goalkeeper become an unlikely goalscorer and Glentoran’s Elliott Morris entered that exclusive club on Saturday.
Morris joined the likes of Peter Schmeichel, Paul Robinson, Jimmy Glass, José Luis Chilavert and the great Rogério Ceni in our hearts after he smacked a free kick from his own half to score Glentoran’s opener in their 2-0 victory over Institute in the Northern Ireland Premiership.

The 37-year-old finally got his reward for nearly 17 years of faithful service to The Glens, as his first goal came on his 723rd appearance for the club.
The goal also helped Glentoran snap a 12-game winless run, making the moment even more precious than it already was.

To be fair to the poor Institute goalkeeper, he was clearly already struggling with the sun in his eyes and not even wearing a cap could aid him in keeping Morris’ shot out.
Still, we’ve been watching the goal on repeat and you can watch it thanks to the BBC NI Sport Twitter account below:
