Sheffield United hosted a Yorkshire derby with rivals Leeds United in an arm wrestle at the top of the table, with both clubs hoping for a win to aid their respective promotion bids.
What ensued was an engrossing, yet predictable battle as both sides scraped for supremacy. As the clocked ticked into its final 10 minutes, it seems that we’d have to settle for a 0-0 draw as both outfits failed to unlock the others’ stern defences.
It was then Marcelo Bielsa’s men got the earliest of Christmas gifts from The Blades as a moment of madness from the Sheffield United goalkeeper was seized upon by Leeds and Pablo Hernandez found himself free to tap in the winner with just eight minutes left to go.
Leeds held on for an ultra-important victory, keeping them second in the Championship as a result.
