If you’ve been living under a rock since last night, you may not have heard that Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest shared one of the most unbelievable games of football ever witnessed.
The gripping Championship contest at Villa Park featured 10 goals, a four-goal haul for Tammy Abraham, two disallowed goals and a red card. What more can you ask for!
The drama began as early as the third minute as Lewis Grabban gave Forest the lead and that was quickly added to by Joao Carvalho to double the advantage in the sixth minute. Five minutes later Villa were back in the fight. Abraham’s first came from a header and he had his second soon after – amazingly making it 2-2 inside the first 15 minutes.
The visitors retook the lead in the 22nd minute when Matty Cash pounced on some slack Villa defending to make it 3-2, but they were level again before half-time as Abraham netted his hat-trick inside 36 minutes from the penalty spot to send the sides in at 3-3.
The madness continued in the second half as Joe Lolley’s superb effort from outside the box put Forest back up at 4-3 and yet that was far from the end of matters.
Firstly, Tobias Figueiredo was given his marching orders in the 68th minute for his dangerous lunge at John McGinn, that was followed by Abraham notching his fourth from the resulting free kick. Then Villa finally hit the front at 5-4 when substitute Anwar El-Ghazi neatly finished from the edge of the box to send the home crowd wild.
Of course, there was still one twist left in the tale and Grabban stole a point for 10-man Forest by squeezing in a shot at the near post to finish the enthralling encounter at an incredible 5-5.
