WATCH: Rafael sees red for ridiculous two-footer in Rhone-Alpes derby

"Played the ball, ref."

Oh dear. It’s fair to say this is a pretty poor tackle.

We don’t know for sure what was going through Rafael Da Silva’s head when he – literally – launched into it, but it was probably, well, not very much at all.

The ex-Manchester United player, now with Lyon, was shown a straight red card by referee Antony Gautier in the 70th minute of the Derby Rhône-Alpes after a tackle on Saint-Étienne’s Yann M’vila, and rightfully so. It was a challenge that ticked all the boxes: two feet, off the ground, scissors motion, on your way pal.

Hard to believe Rafael had the cheek to protest. But, of course, he did.
