Watch: Non-league striker scores amazing long range overhead kick

David Foley, remember the name! The South Shields striker scored one of the best goals you’ll see this year with an overhead kick…

We love all levels of football here at Power Tower, but even we didn’t think we’d be taking a trip to the seventh tier of English football this morning.

However, we simply couldn’t ignore the quality of David Foley’s goal for South Shields FC against North Ferriby United in the First Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy on Saturday.

31-year-old Foley spent most of his early years at Hartlepool United and had arguably his career highlight when he scored against then Premier League Stoke City in the FA Cup in 2009. After a spell in America, Foley is now in his second stint with South Shields who operate in the Northern Premier League Premier Division.

We said the goal against Stoke was arguably the best moment of his career because he may have topped it with the second goal of his hat-trick in a 4-0 victory for South Shields. After being part of the initial move, Foley latched onto the ball with his back to goal outside of the North Ferriby United box.

The striker then impressively flicked the ball up for himself and planted his looping overhead kick over a despairing keeper into the net. You really should go out of your way to see it and you can watch it for yourself thanks to the South Shields YouTube channel below:
