Heroes and Villains: Punters turn sour on Mo Salah

Liverpool’s Mo Salah was certainly the villain for our customers last weekend, but who played the hero? We’ve got all the answers here…

Villain

Stamford Bridge is where we start our journey this week and no we weren’t looking for usual suspects Álvaro Morata or Olivier Giroud this time. Shockingly, it’s Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah who we’re looking to collar this time as the Egyptian King proved to be far from regal for our customers.

After netting 43 times for the Anfield outfit last season, Salah has found matters a little tougher so far this campaign with fans speculating that he returned too quickly from the shoulder injury inflicted on him by the dastardly Sergio Ramos in the Champions League final.

He also finds himself in the bad books with our punters as literally thousands had him backed at 9/2 to net first against Chelsea as he snatched at chance after chance on Saturday evening.

Things were so bad that he was eventually given the hook in the 66th minute by manager Jurgen Klopp. Napoli beware on Wednesday night, he won’t like Xherdan Shaqiri sniffing around his position.

Hero

Staying at the home of Chelsea, punters needed a hero and this time he didn’t have a big ‘S’ emblazoned on the chest.

They may call Ian Poulter ‘The Postman’ for his continuous Ryder Cup brilliance, but he wasn’t the only one delivering on Saturday. Eden Hazard was at it again against Liverpool, as he sent a helpless Alisson sprawling in a fruitless attempt to keep out his cool opener in the 25th minute.

Thankfully for our bettors, they’d piled into the Belgian netting first at 11/2 and you just knew it was coming after his special moment at Anfield three days earlier.

Harard is certainly living up to his surname when it comes to trying to defend against him. He’ll be giving our bean counters a big headache soon if he keeps up this kind of form for the rest of the season.
