West Brom claim Mascot of the Year crown on opening day

As the new season had its kick-off yesterday for most clubs in the Football League, it was West Brom who had tongues wagging the most…

Strangely for West Bromwich Albion it wasn’t their final minute defeat to Bolton Wanderers on the opening day of the Championship campaign that got people talking – it was their mascot!

On the field a late set-piece goal from Yannick Wildschut handed the visitors a 2-1 win at their freshly relegated hosts. That came after Josh Magennis gave Bolton the lead in the 18th minute, only for it to be cancelled out by a boomer from West Brom’s Harvey Barnes.

Yet the majority of the coverage after the game was concerned with who was patrolling the side-lines and it wasn’t new permanent Baggies boss Darren Moore, it was West Brom’s new mascot ‘Boiler Man’.

Yep, as you can see above that is actually a man dressed as a white combi boiler!

It all came about from the club’s new two-year sponsorship deal with Ideal Boilers and the new mascot wasted no time taunting the opposition supporters.

Unfortunately for Boiler Man and West Brom, it was the Bolton fans having the last laugh.
