Petit: Nabil Fekir the perfect Coutinho replacement

Our French football aficionado has seen plenty of the Liverpool target lining out for Lyon, and says scousers should be very excited if this move happens...

Liverpool are expected to sign a possible break out star from this summer’s World Cup in Nabil Fekir, the tricky Lyon playmaker.

World Cup winner Emmanuel Petit is a big fan of the 24-year-old, having seen plenty of him in Ligue 1 this season.

“Can he fit into the Premier League? I believe so. He has a reputation for a bad temper on the pitch. I don’t know how he will react to the physical side of the league, because the provocation will come, but when I look at Phillipe Coutinho, Fekir could do the same for Liverpool.”

“Fekir has great potential for Liverpool. He has lost some pace following his big knee injury, but technically he is an amazing player. With his vision and ability to dribble, he can do great things.”

The hot prospect saw his progress hampered by a cruciate ligament injury in 2015, but has returned to form since. “We saw that in the first part of last season, where he was the best player in league, ahead of Neymar, Mbappe, everyone. He was amazing.”

High praise, but warranted, as the skillful schemer stepped up for his club side after other senior players left the Parc Olympique Lyonnais last summer.

“When you consider what had happened at Lyon during the transfer window, where they lost big players like Lacazette, Tolisso, Gonalons, real leaders in the dressing room, it was a big turning of the page for the club.”

“And Fekir was also played in a different postion, behind the two strikers, but they gave him the captain’s armband and extra responsibilities on and off the ptich, and that changed his mentality completely.”

“He could be huge player for Liverpool if this move happens.”

Liverpool might have another terrifying attacker on their books.

The Premier League has been warned.
