Odds drastically cut on Southampton sacking manager amid Leicester thumping

Will it be a case of Pellegrin-go for The Saints?

As Leicester took a three-goal lead away at Southampton by the half-time whistle, prompting cries of derision from the home crowd, we were forced to slash the odds on Mauricio Pellegrino being the next Premier League boss to be sacked.

The under-pressure Argentine is now 7/2 to be the next top flight boss to leave his job, his odds shortening from 8/1 in the space of 38 turgid first half minutes, in what ended up being a 4-1 hammering by The Foxes.

That the mauling was dished out by predecessor Claude Puel – who was much criticised for his season in charge at St Mary’s – will have only added salt to the wound.

Pellegrino is now behind just behind Swansea boss Paul Clement at 5/6 and Stoke’s Mark Hughes (15/8) in Paddy Power’s ‘Sack Race’.

Asked about Pellegrino’s future spokesman Paddy Power said: “Southampton fans moaned that Claude Puel didn’t produce goals for them to witness – so I’m not sure they should be booing now that he’s served up three tonight at St Mary’s.

“It’s left his successor, Mauricio Pellegrino, in a tricky position though and, amid a flurry of bets, we’ve now drastically shortened the price of him being the next Premier League boss to go. After all, Tony Pulis is still available.”
