Louis van Gaal has emerged as a leading contender for the vacant Everton manager’s job, as the Toffees continue to come unstuck in their search for a new boss.
The former Manchester United man is now third-favourite in the betting at 5/1, behind seemingly unwanted caretaker chief David Unsworth (3/1), and the seemingly ungettable Marco Silva (8/11).
Original favourite Sean Dyche remains amongst the front-runners in the market at 6/1, but every other contender is seen as a long-shot by the bookies.
Asked about the possibility of a return to England for LVG spokesman Paddy Power said: “Everton’s search for a new manager has been tediously slow, calculated and without much end product – which could explain why LVG has emerged as a contender for the role.
“The board, it is said, want a big name – which Louis Van Gaal certainly counts as.”
