Watch: Jon Walters pulls no punches on former teammate Marko Arnautović

As honest as it gets from the Irishman…

If you didn’t see Jonathan Walters’ appearance on BBC’s Match of the Day 2 Extra today, then you missed out on a treat.

The Burnley forward covered a range of topics including Premier League survival, who is a better watch City or United and West Ham’s battering by Liverpool with host Mark Chapman as well as fellow guests Mark Schwarzer and journalist Oliver Kay of The Times.

However, it was his comments about former Stoke City teammate Marko Arnautović that pricked our ears. Having spent seven years at the club before leaving this summer, Walters is pretty well qualified to speak on all matters to do with The Potters and he didn’t hold back on the Austrian.

Asked about Arnautović’s move to West Ham, Walters responded with a very measured, but equally cutting analysis of him as a player. Ireland’s talisman queried how many times does Arnautović actually “turn it on” over the course of a season before describing his transfer as “a good deal for Stoke”.

We won’t spoil the full thing for you, but it’s refreshing to see a Premier League player be so honest these days. Although we wouldn’t expect anything less of the great man, watch it for yourself below:
