After a terrible time over the last couple of seasons, things looked on the up for Aston Villa and their long-suffering fans this campaign.
A win away at Preston on Wednesday night made it seven points from a possible nine in their last three outings and pushed the Villains into the play-off positions in the Championship.
That momentum came to crashing halt today though as Sheffield Wednesday quietened Villa Park at the earliest possible opportunity, thanks to sensational strike from Adam Reach after just 18 seconds.
The home side had only touched the ball just once when it bounced into Reach’s path and he unleashed a thunderbolt from over 30 yards out to give Sam Johnstone in the Villa goal absolutely no hope of saving it.
Jordan Rhodes doubled the Owls lead on 23 minutes and the Villains could only muster a consolation from Christopher Samba in added time as the Yorkshire outfit ran out 2-1 winner. But, it’s Reach’s that will dominate the morning headlines and thanks to Channel 5 Sport you can watch it below:
