VIRGIL VAN PRICE HIKE! Paddy installs live Van Dijk valuation ticker at Anfield

Liverpool transfer committee: no faffing about this time, we got you sorted....

Liverpool’s poor start to the season has left Jurgen Klopp feeling defenceless – in more ways than one, as his faltering progress at the helm has been highlighted by his side’s abysmal defending.

The German galacticoach had his heart set on Southampton centre back Virgil Van Dijk in the summer, and the club’s fanbase are ruing Liverpool’s failure to land the big Dutchman.

After shambolic displays from Dejan Lovren, Ragnar Klavan and Simon Mignolet, amongst others, fans are desperate for the club to reignite their pursuit of Van Dijk in the Winter Window.

Though they might find him even more expensive this time around, as their dire recent performances have surely made VVD even more valuable to their cause.

To illustrate this point, we mischievously erected a live-updating Van Dijk valuation board next to Anfield, showing how the defender’s asking price is soaring with every passing howler from the Liverpool defence.

The counter, which is housed on a wall overhanging the stadium car park, shows Van Dijk’s asking price increasing by the second – and will adjust live according to how Liverpool fare against Huddersfield this afternoon.

Liverpool top the betting for Van Dijk’s next destination at 3/1, but there could be more misery for Klopp and Liverpool fans – he’s odds-on (3/10) to stay at Southampton, and similarly short-priced not to leave until next summer (4/6).

Paddy said: “Liverpool could do with a reliable sweeper, so obviously they turned to Van Dijk.

“But, rather than the spoonful of sugar Klopp hoped for, they had a taste of their own medicine as Southampton resisted – and what’s happened since has been defenceless. Quite literally.

“So we thought we’d help Liverpool’s infamous transfer committee out by giving them a market valuation of their top target for January – however, if they lose to Huddersfield this afternoon, they might as well stick another zero on the end.”
