Watch: Ex-Premier League striker makes utter mess of open goal

Ouch! This is a bad one…

You may be forgiven for forgetting that Matt Derbyshire played in the Premier League for six seasons, but this miss from Sunday will make you realise why he’s not there at the moment.

Derbyshire – who plied his trade in England’s top tier for Blackburn and Birmingham City – is playing out in Cyprus these days and scored 24 times for Omonia Nicosia last season. The former Nottingham Forrest man has also grabbed four goals so far in this campaign, but it’s his blunder on Sunday night against Ermis Aradippou that has the footballing world talking.

With the sides locked at 1-1 just after the hour mark, Derbyshire benefited from a lucky rebound off an attempted clearance from the keeper. He then had two touches in which he could have just passed it into an empty net before disaster struck.

Derbyshire let the ball run away from him with a shoddy touch and it was miraculously cleared by the defence. To make matters worse, Ermis went up the other end and scored the winner four minutes later.
