In case you missed it, Liverpool paid £35m for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on transfer deadline day.

No, we don’t understand it either.

Still, whatever floats your boat, and it’s fair to say Jurgen Klopp knows more about football than anyone who happens to be reading (or writing) this article. So perhaps – somehow – The Ox will end up developing into the top-class central midfielder that very few people ever thought he could be.

Only time will tell.

Last night, however, the Liverpool man was not on top form. Or rather, he was very much on Oxlade-Chamberlain form – frequently misplacing passes; controlling the ball with the elegance of a Sunday Leaguer who’s turned up for a match after a night on the discount Shiraz; curling shots gracefully into the fourth tier.
