Watch: David Villa continues p**s-take of the MLS with derby hat-trick

It really is all too easy for the Spaniard over there…

No matter what bells and whistles they put on it, we know the all-mighty dollar tends to be the telling factor when aging-footballing superstars rock up on American shores.

The likes David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Andrea Pirlo and Robbie Keane have all taken the US pay day with varying amounts of success. However, one icon who has been worth every penny is New York City FC’s David Villa.

Villa has netted an incredible 58 times in his 85 run outs for the Big Apple outfit and he truly earned his (massive) keep with a stunning performance in last night’s derby with city rival’s New York Red Bulls.

The former Barcelona man give City the lead in the first half, before two goals from Bradley Wright-Phillips (remember him?) left them staring down the barrel of a home defeat at Yankee Stadium. Villa was having none of it however and grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck scoring a stunning solo effort.

He then won a penalty for his side after receiving a big boot to the head The Undertaker would have been proud of. He made no mistake from the spot to secure a 3-2 victory for his side and the goal sealed his first ever hat-trick in the MLS as well as the top scorers slot in the league.
