Anyone who’s anyone in football has been saying that football is dead in the ‘wake’ of Claudio Ranieri’s sacking.
So a couple of the PR boys – you know, the really eager ones who obviously haven’t got a girlfriend yet – went to town on marking his departure, effectively turning the big Monday Night Football game into a funeral march to mirror the mood of pundits and fans alike.
They even got floral wreaths bearing the message ‘RIP football’ to sit in the vehicle’s window. Those lads are actually quite creative when they put their minds to it.
The procession – no doubt slower-moving than the Foxes’ magnificent march to the title last year – took the hearse from Leicester town centre all the to the King Power stadium, and is being repeated in the build up to kick-off tonight.
Claudio, my angel, this one’s for you.
Forget the hearse, wreathes, mourners and the heart-breaking ruthlessness of club owners, though – the most sobering thought of this whole situation is that Nigel Pearson is the favourite to take over.

Gulp! It’s enough to make you want to bury your head in the sand like a … well, you know.
