London, 16th February: Arsenal’s season is spiralling out of control faster than a Sean Spicer White House briefing, and Paddy Power thinks there’s a good chance this season will be Arsene Wenger’s last.
After last night’s humiliating 5-1 defeat to Bayern Munich, the bookmaker is offering 8/11 for Wenger to NOT be Arsenal manager on the first day of next season – the first time the price has touched odds-on.
The Frenchman cut a forlorn figure after last night’s defeat and with his sides Premier League challenge all but over many believe the end is nigh.
And while the Arsenal board are expected to allow their manager to leave with dignity at the end of the season, Paddy Power has seen money for Wenger to be the next Premier League manager sacked.
The 67 year-old is now a 10/1 shot to be the next manager out the door.
But despite the widespread calls for Wenger to call time on his reign, there’s still a Donald Trump sized question mark on who’ll replace him.
Paddy Power makes Massimiliano Allegri the 7/2 favourite, but the truth is it would be easy to un-zip Arsene Wenger’s winter coat than pick his successor.
7/2 Massimiliano Allegri
4/1 Thomas Tuchel
5/1 Eddie Howe
9/1 Diego Simeone
12/1 Rafael Benitez
12/1 Patrick Viera
14/1 Joachim Löw
16/1 Ronald Koeman
Paddy Power said:
“Arsene looked a broken man after last night’s hammering and the result looks set to spell the beginning of the end for the Frenchman at the Emirates.”
It’s the first time we’ve gone odds-on for Wenger NOT to be manager next season – so the #WengerOut brigade will be feeling hopeful.”
