After bringing them back to the promised of the Premier League, it looks like Middlesbrough might be set to incredibly dump manager Aitor Karanka.
Karanka led Boro out of the Championship last season, pipping Brighton for the second promotion berth. However, the step up has made goals hard to come by for the men from Teesside.
Middlesbrough have only managed to hit the back of the net 18 times this season, that’s the lowest of any outfit in the Premier League. Despite that fact, Karanka still has his side sitting four points clear of the relegation zone on 20 points.
So why is he been heavily linked with the sack?
It’s seems a flurry of punts late yesterday and early this morning have forced our traders to slash Karanka’s odds from 14/1 three days ago right the way into a heavy 4/11 favourite for the chop.
One win in the last eight and only a single away success all season won’t have help José Mourinho’s former assistant’s cause either.
Asked about the Karanka situation spokesman Paddy Power said: “It appears Aitor Karanka may be sacked – if our punters are to be believed.
“It’s difficult enough to keep your job in the Premier League without criticising your own club’s supporters.
“Maybe Aitor fancies a shot at the Chinese Super League. Or maybe he’s just feeling a bit Karanka-y.”
