It was a game with more twists and turns than an episode of Westworld, but it was Liverpool who managed to come out on top of ‘Mersey Monday’ with a late, late win at Goodison Park.
Sadio Mané made no mistake pouncing on a Daniel Sturridge shot that rebounded off the post to secure a 94th minute winner for the Reds against home side Everton.
The victory shifts Liverpool into second position in the Premier League at Christmas, trailing runaway leaders Chelsea by six points. It has also seen them cut into 11/2 in the betting to claim title.
Having also worn his heart on his sleeve on the pitch, it seems old habits die hard for Reds icon Jamie Carragher off it. In case you’ve been living under a rock, the former Liverpool centre half works for Sky as a pundit these days and just couldn’t help but celebrate wildly back in the studio when Mané hit the back of the net.
We won’t ruin it for you, but it’s fair to say the glasses of water in the studio were in danger with how high pitched Carra got at one stage.
Once a Red, always a Red eh?
