There is always one person that wants to ruin Christmas. Sometimes, it’s the Grinch. Other times, it’s the person who steals the last Yorkshire Pudding. This year? It’s Alvaro Negredo.
The Spanish striker needed to find the net against Hull City at home – a team that have scored 11 goals and conceded a huge 29 this season – to help two lads have the Monday evening of a lifetime.
Two online punters, from Kildare and Liverpool, had successfully predicted seven out of eight anytime goalscorers, with everything riding on La fiera de Vallecas (The beast of Vallecas). He’s barely even the beast of ‘Boro.
Despite finding the net 160 times in his club career, in the Premier League, Champions League, Europa League and even La Liga, he was incapable of doing it for these lads on a cold night in North Yorkshire.
He pelted one over the bar from 10 yards out in the opening minutes of the game, before trying a half-arsed header and allowing teammate Gaston Ramirez to get a goal. Selfish. He clearly couldn’t see what was at stake here, as the game finished 1-0 to Middlesbrough.
These are their oh-so-close shrewd selections:
Kildare Customer: Jermain Defoe, Christian Benteke, Jon Walters, Matthew Phillips, Sadio Mane, Alexis Sanchez, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Alvaro Negredo.
Liverpool Customer: Jermain Defoe, Christian Benteke, Jon Walters, Matthew Phillips, Divock Origi, Alexis Sanchez, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Alvaro Negredo.
We are fairly sure that Negredo will be straight off these lads’ Christmas card list, and on Santa’s naughty list for the rest of eternity.
