After being forced into an apology over inappropriate pictures, Paddy Power has made it an outside for Wayne Rooney to be stripped of the England captaincy.
Rooney was photographed looking the worst for wear at 5am on Sunday morning – while still sporting his England kit – after being invited to join a wedding party.
Photos of the incident were released to the Sun, who published the exclusive that prompted the the England captain to say sorry.
Rooney wasn’t the only culprit it seems, as the paper is also reporting that up to ten players in the national set-up were out at a nightclub until Sunday’s early hours as well.
This has seen the Football Association take action today, banning the players from nights off on England duty. With Gareth Southgate heavy favourite to be the next permanent England boss, the controversies do raise questions over his ability to control his charges.
Still our traders think it’s an unlikely punt at for Rooney to be removed as England captain, although you can get him at to recreate Gazza’s dentist chair celebration on Saturday against Arsenal if you fancy it!
Ask about the Rooney situation spokesman Paddy Power said: “There’s been a lot of talk of Rooney losing his captaincy for these shenanigans, but I don’t see how that would help – apparently the last time he was stripped, he was in a hotel bar, bashing at a piano, off his nut.
“One onlooker observed that the last time Wazza had embarrassed himself this badly, he was plodding around Wembley.”
