After correctly predicting eight anytime goal scorers, two Paddy Power customers have made history, winning the first Hotshot Jackpot. The pair will split the £325k prize.
As Mondays go, we would say that takes some beating. The champagne and takeaway is on you, lads.
The two online customers, from Lincoln and Dunfermline, have Lukaku to thank tonight as they step through the golden gates of the Punting Hall of Fame.
And what a glorious way to make your entrance. We can only compare the relief they must have felt to how it feels when the takeaway man rings the doorbell when you are hung-over.
One of the lucky lads is celebrating his win in Diego, Costa Del Sol, a region in Southern Spain recently re-named following a certain striker’s involvement in leg six of the HSJP.
However, it all came down to this evening. Forget allegiances, Romelu Lukaku was the fella we were all rooting for.
The Big Belgian was 13/10 to bag a goal before the game began, and did so in the 60th minute!
A wonderful dinked cross from substitute Idrissa Gueye from the right landed lovingly on the forehead of Lukaku and he made no mistake from all over seven yards.
That goal will have sent our punters into dreamland, given that Everton frontman had missed three excellent chances earlier on, including one that forced an incredible save from Sunderland keeper Jordan Pickford.
Unbelievably, it’s his first goal for the Toffees in 1139 minutes but it’s definitely one our HSJP players will never forget.
The £325k Jackpot was split straight down the middle, netting each customer a cool £162.5k. That’s enough to buy 250 private jet rides, a fitting reward for the striker.
With 18 goals in 36 appearances last campaign, the Jackpot was left in safe hands and at capable feet.
Many fans would argue that Lukaku had been the subject of a goal drought, not scoring in the Premier League since March. But if you fancy an argument, I can point you in the direction of two blokes sat on wads of fifties who may beg to differ!
Our winner from Dunfermline picked the following players for his excellent eight:
Callum Wilson, Dele Alli, Christian Benteke, Santi Cazorla, Jamie Vardy, Diego Costa, Troy Deeney and the magic Romelu Lukaku.
He shared the £325k with a HSJP player from Lincoln, who’s electric eight were slightly different.
Our other victor had: Callum Wilson, Harry Kane, Christian Benteke, Santi Cazorla, Roberto Firmino, Diego Costa, Odion Ighalo and of course Romelu Lukaku.
The goal victory at The Stadium of Light will go down in history as the strike which made our very first Hotshot Jackpot success story.
If you fancy getting involved in the next round, the jackpot is reset to a cool quarter-of-a-million and is up for grabs this weekend.
