Dublin Derby. It's shaping to be a cracker.

The biggest achievement in League of Ireland football may well be staying afloat year on year. But perhaps the biggest relief in Irish football is winning the Dublin derby and not having to carry the burden of that defeat with you around the city.

Bohs might have been the slightly better side in the opening half but Rovers always felt like they had a couple of gears to go into, even if it took a scrappy Rory Gaffney goal to win it in the end. On the absolute contrary is the long trek to Ballybofey. Now, even if you win up in Donegal, it’s a bit of nightmare to come home with three points. And when you don’t win, it’s ten times worse.

However, when you’re two-nil up with five minutes to go and still fail to come away victorious, that’s ultimate deflation.

These two teams are coming into this south Dublin clash on very different vibes. And I’d ask you to forgive me for ever using that term in any context – and also never, ever tell my missus is I uttered it, let alone used it to describe the psychological state of a football.

Hopefully this Bet Builder reimburses you.

Rovers to Win

They were going through a sticky patch prior to Friday’s big clash with Bohs and I often think the only way they’ll ever be beaten is if they’re in their own heads.

Rovers have comfortably the best squad in the league. They have the biggest squad in the league too. And you can absolutely argue that, based on everything he’s achieved so far, they have the best manager in the league as well.

That win over Bohemians said a lot about their mental toughness, and I think because of the edge, they’re an absolute certainty to win here.

Both Teams to Score

I love when goalscorers go cold for a while because it usually means the value in backing them to net in a quick space of time is quite good.

That’s the case with Eoin Doyle, but equally, Billy King – who was top of most wishlists in Inchicore this offseason – is absolutely flying when it comes to notching a few.

He scored a brace in Ballybofey the other night and looks sharp. They create, and they’re far more cutting than Bohs are in the final third. I’d expect them to bag.

Over 3.5 Goals

Obviously we’ve got at least three goals in this tie based on the above, but there’s a real sense that Pat’s need to come out of the blocks firing because they’re angry after Friday.

A poor result like that generally commands a response where players are a bit angrier and they try to right wrong from the off.

Well, that typically produces an end-to-end game with goals galore. Rovers have the staying power to punish that energy late in games and Pat’s will be on the floor.

Shamrock Rovers – Over 5.5 Corners

There were sixteen corners in the Rovers and Bohs game. The Hoops are playing football differently to everyone else in that, despite the slow, methodical build-up, they’ve got multiple players – Towell, Mandriou, Byrne – all capable of scoring from distance. They also typically have more chances away from home, so count this one in.
