Phil Neville’s Inter Miami side are finding some form as they scrap for a spot in the MLS Eastern Conference playoffs, and they’ll hope to continue that revival against an Atlanta United team who are just two-points behind in the table but trending in the opposite direction.

And we’ve put together a nifty little punt on it…

Created in a blaze of hype and David Beckham-fueled pizzazz in 2020, Inter Miami are yet to live up to the billing as an actually existing football club.

A smattering of notable names decorates the roster of the South Beach side – World Cup final villain Gonzalo Higuain, ex-Tottenham squad member DeAndre Yedlin, the ghost of Arsenal’s Kieran Gibbs, and a Blaise Matuidi signed through shady shenanigans – while Gary Neville’s brother puts them through their paces.

Despite their high-profile names on and off the field they’ve struggled to make an impact in the MLS, finishing 10th in the Covid-curtailed 2020 season and losing a p-lay-in tie 3-0 to Nashville for the postseason, and finishing 11th last year, meaning another missed playoff effort.

NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?

And this season hasn’t been shaping up all that much better as they took just one point from their opening five matches of the MLS campaign.

But things have turned around since then, as they’ve won five of their last nine in the league, drawing twice and losing just twice in that run.

DOUBLE CHANCE – INTER MIAMI & DRAW

A disappointing exit on penalties to Orlando City from the US Open Cup prior to the international break shouldn’t obscure the up-turn in form, with a 2-0 win over New York Red Bulls, currently second in the East, a sign of progress.

Atlanta started the season stronger, but, beset by injuries, they have seen just one league win their last eight games. They have been relatively strong at home this season, however, and have goal threat Josef Martinez fit, while Miami have just one away win to their name.

Still, Atlanta to win looks outlandishly short at the prices for a team that’s won once in the league since just after April Fools Day, so we’d suggest erring on the side of caution and taking Inter Miami and Draw in the Double Chance market.

BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE  – YES

While Atlanta may not have had many results to cheer about recently, there has been plenty of entertainment in their games as they concede and score at a hefty pace.

There have been 22 goals in their last six MLS games, and they haven’t kept or endured a clean sheet in that run.

Miami are a less prolific side by far, but the home side here have a knack for allowing goals to sides of all standards, so the away team should fancy their chances of at least nabbing one.

PLAYER TO HAVE 2 OR MORE SHOTS ON GOAL – JOSEF MARTINEZ

Venezuelan striker Josef Martinez has shown in previous seasons for the Five Stripes how lethal he can be. It’s quite a few years since he snared 35 goals in a campaign but he’s still capable of averaging one strike every two games or thereabouts.

He has just two goals to his name this campaign from six appearances but that figure is sure to rise if he stays fit. He should be on the end of a few of the chances they create against Maimi and we’d take him to have at least two efforts on target.

SHOWN A CARD – GREGORE

With United’s games being so incident-packed generally, we’d expect Inter’s midfield to have their fair share of dirty work to do.

Last season, Neville’s Miami side had two of the top three players for bookings in the whole league. Argentine defender Leandro Gonzalez Pirez topped the chart with 16 yellow cards in 30 games.

He’s now back home cracking ankles for River Plate, but Brazilian midfielder Gregore is still with Miami having collected 13 bookings last year.

Already up to seven in 13 games in 2022, another tonight looks a reasonable punt at the odds.
