Tuesday night sees Wolves’ ground Molineux host England’s next game of this Nations League campaign. It comes against the Hungary side that beat them 1-0 earlier this month, with England surely looking for a much improved performance this time out.

NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?

It’s about time the Three Lions put in a proper performance, sitting bottom of their group, and without a goal from open play. But our tipster thinks Tuesday night is going to change all that. Let’s take a look at what Shane O’Brien is backing…

Hungary (+2)

Gareth Southgate has said publicly that England do not care all that much about this iteration of the Nations League, but they are now in real danger of dropping down a tier if things do not change quickly.

The Three Lions sit bottom of Group A3 after two insipid draws and a defeat in their opening three games but will leapfrog Hungary with a win on Tuesday night.

Hungary have proved once again that they are no mugs after giving France and Germany a mighty scare at Euro 2020 last summer. They have taken four points from England and the German in Group A3 and ran Italy close in a 2-1 defeat in Cesena.

They will provide a difficult challenge, but Southgate’s are bound to come good eventually. England may just edge a close game on Tuesday night.

Both teams to score

England have been the opposite of exciting in this Nations League campaign, failing to score a goal from open play in their first three games, with their only goal coming via a disputable penalty against Germany.

Hungary, on the other hand, have scored in each of their three games to date against superior opposition on paper. It wouldn’t be all that surprising if they breached the English defence on Tuesday night.

England have looked quite vulnerable at the back in recent games and conceded a number of gilt-edged chances against both Germany and Italy. Tuesday’s game could buck a recent trend and actually be watchable.

Harry Kane to score first

Harry Kane brought up a half-century of England goals with a last-minute equaliser against Germany and it is now surely only a matter of time before he surpasses Wayne Rooney in the all-time scoring charts. The Spurs man has scored an impressive 18 goals in his last 21 England appearances, including seven goals in his last seven home games.

Kane is by far the most likely English player to get on the scoresheet on Tuesday and is good value to open the scoring.

Jack Grealish anytime assist

It was Jack Grealish’s introduction that changed the game for England against Germany last week and the Manchester City star is arguably the most likely player to provide an assist against Hungary on Tuesday.

Grealish played 90 minutes against Italy on Saturday in his first start of the Nations League campaign and has surely done enough to justify his inclusion in the starting team.

He has averaged 1.7 key passes per game in his three appearances to date and is easily one of England’s most creative players, if not the most creative.

Grealish provided Kane with an assist in England’s 2-0 win over Germany at the Euros last summer and it wouldn’t be overly surprising to see the same combination again on Tuesday.
