Short Priced Punt: Denmark to win

Denmark are ahead of Croatia in the FIFA Mens World Rankings (however they work those out!?) and we can only assume that this must mean they are a better team! No but seriously, Denmark have been racking up some solid performances of late, and look just as good as the side the pushed England all the way in the semi finals of the Euros last summer. Their victory at the Stade de France was a marker of their quality as a team, coming from behind courtesy of two Andreas Cornelius goals.

Croatia were really poor against Austria, losing 3-0 at home, and they will be very disappointed to have only picked up one point from their first two games, with them both at home. With Denmark’s home record (they haven’t lost at home since September 2020), this will be a tough ask for Zlatko Dalic’s men.

Value Play: Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to score or assist

Two games, two goal involvements, and 180 minutes under his built. The Spurs midfielder is in strong form for his country in this nations league, but still represents decent value in this market. You can’t score or assist if you’re not on the pitch, and Hojbjerg is one of the trusted men to martial that Danish midfield. Goal involvements are always more likely in a team playing well, and there’s some attacking talent ahead for the Dane to provide for. Cornelius, Kasper Dolberg, Barcelona’s Martin Brathwaite and the massive Yousef Poulsen would all finish off a chance if Hojbjerg puts it on a plate.

Will he make it three goals & assists in three Nations League games? We think so.

Long Shot: Denmark to win 2-1

A look in the form book will tell you both teams to score is likely. 6 out of Croatia’s last 7 games have seen them fail to keep a clean sheet, and they themselves only drew a blank in one of those 6 games. It’s fair to say Croatia’s forward line is much stronger than it’s defence, Luca Modric, Ivan Perisic, Mateo Kovacic and Andrej Kramaric strike much more fear into the hearts of the opposition than the defensive duo of Domagoj Vida and Dejan Lovren.

Denmark have also kept just one clean sheet in their last seven games, in which, both teams have scored five times. Their last two games have ended up with the Danes winning 2-1, so if lightning can strike twice – can it strike for a third time on Friday night? We’re backing it, and for Denmark to win 2-1.
