England take on old enemies Germany on Tuesday looking to bounce back from a shock defeat to Hungary in their UEFA Nations’ League opener.

A defeat against the weakest team in their group on paper represents the worst possible start to the Three Lions’ campaign and they must get back on track ahead of their trip to Munich.

NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?

There are very few opponents, if any, that should rouse Gareth Southgate’s side more than a meeting with Die Mannschaft.

And as if the game needed any more spicing up, we’ve thrown a four-way Bet Builder into the mix, too. Let’s get into it…

Tuesday 7th June, 7.45pm: Germany v England
UEFA Nations League
TV: Channel 4

The Draw

England’s surprise defeat to Hungary on Saturday night was their first defeat within 90 minutes in 23 games – a run of fixtures stretching back to November 2020.

Germany, on the other hand, opened their campaign with a 1-1 draw against European champions Italy on Saturday night, and remain unbeaten since losing to Gareth Southgate’s side at Wembley at last summer’s Euros.

The Germans appeared to have stagnated under Jaochim Low towards the end of his reign but seem to have found their form again under Hansi Flick.

The former Bayern Munich head coach has overseen eight wins and two draws since taking over but has failed to win his only two games against genuinely elite opposition. He may be forced to settle for another point on Tuesday night.

Both teams to score

Germany conceded just two goals in Flick’s first eight games in charge, but the standard of opposition must be taken into consideration.

They found themselves in a very weak World Cup qualification group consisting of Iceland, Romania, North Macedonia, Armenia, and Liechtenstein, so it is no surprise that they found clean sheets easy to come by.

However, they have failed to keep clean sheets in each of their last two games against Italy and the Netherlands, suggesting that they struggle against the stronger teams. England, meanwhile, have failed to score in just two of their last 23 games and showed last June that they have the tools to hurt the German defence.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see both teams find the back of the net.

Harry Kane to score anytime

Harry Kane has a chance to bring up 50 international goals if he can score here. He’s almost certain to break Wayne Rooney’s all-time English goalscoring record in a matter of months, and the England captain can move closer doing so at the Allianz Arena.

Kane scored England’s second in the 2-0 win over Germany last summer and also netted in a 3-2 friendly win over the same opponents back in 2016. The Tottenham forward has scored 17 goals in his last 19 England appearances and is good value to find the back of the net on Tuesday.

Timo Werner to score anytime

Timo Werner has found a new lease of life in the German side. He’s scored five times since Flick’s appointment as manager, scoring more goals for his country than he managed in the Premier League with Chelsea last season.

Germany have scored 35 in 10 games under Flick and are capable of netting from all angles, but Werner, who is responsible for one of every seven of those goals, represents the best bet to find the back of the net in Munich.
